US congresswoman says no weapons for Kiev over Christian Church persecution

A Republican Congresswoman has condemned the persecution of the canonical Christian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, pledging to halt US weapons and munitions shipments to Kiev amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Last week, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, Anna Paulina Luna slammed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for banning the activities of the Church in Ukraine over accusations that the establishment is pro-Moscow.

Against the repeatedly highlighted anti-Christian background of the Zelensky regime, the 36-year-old Mexican-American veteran said she will fight to stop the flow of weaponry and money to Ukraine.

“Zelenskyy BANNED THE ORTHODOX CHURCH. I CAN PROMISE THERE WILL BE NO WEAPONS FUNDING FOR YOU @ZelenskyyUa. NEGOTIATE FOR PEACE. WE ARE NOT YOUR PIGGY BANK,” Luna wrote on X.

The Conservative Florida representative is the latest US politician to raise awareness about Kiev’s opposition to the followers of the Christian faith.

Backed by pro-Nazi Ukrainian lawmakers, Zelensky, a Jew, introduced a bill that laid the foundation to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

Under the legislation, Ukrainian authorities launched an investigation into the Kiev Metropolis of the UOC, determined to prove that the Church is linked to the Moscow Patriarchate.

Zelensky then went on to cancel the citizenship of the head of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, on baseless accusations, including his beseeching God’s forgiveness for Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine.

A senior White House official also said on Tuesday that the Trump administration had halted some shipments of weapons to Ukraine over concerns that the country’s own stockpiles are too low.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Trump halted the delivery of some air defense interceptors and precision-guided bombs and missiles to Ukraine after a Pentagon review determined that US weapons stocks had declined.

“This decision was made to put America’s interests first following a review of our nation’s military support and assistance to other countries across the globe,” according to the White House spokesperson.

Since the Ukraine war began in February 2022, the US has provided Ukraine with nearly $86 billion in military assistance, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
