Shoppers say FatFace clogs look like designer pair but £100 cheaper

Birkenstock Boston clogs have been around for years but are still as popular as ever thanks to their laid-back, comfy style. They can be worn with pretty much anything, slipped on and off, with fans saying they keep them as a sturdy house slipper or wear out and about with slouchy socks.

If you love the look but hate the price tag, we’ve found a very similar pair on the high street that are a fraction of the cost. The FatFace Elsie outdoor slippers are £37.50, compared with the Birkenstock Boston clogs, which start at £140. And it’s not just us who think they’re a great dupe of the designer version, buyers of the Elsie have said the same.

One shopper wrote in their review: “I had my eye on a well known brand of these slippers but couldn’t justify the cost. I searched for alternatives and FatFace’s version came up. They were exactly what I was looking for, in the exact colour.”

FatFace’s Elsies has a brushed leather upper, a soft footbed (according to FatFace) with a cork-effect, and comes in a stone shade in sizes 3 to 8. There’s also a brown colour with a cream furry lining; however, this only has limited sizes but is reduced to £25. It features a round toe, a wave tread, and a prong buckle. FatFace also has the Elda blue suede clogs, which are similar in design and priced at £45.

Some reviewers on FatFace’s UK site praised them as “comfortable”, however, one shopper said they wished the heel had more cushioning. Most shoppers recommended sizing up for the best fit or wearing with thick socks to break them in. We think the neutral Stone shade would work with almost anything, from loungewear to jeans, giving them a versatile, elevated look at a fraction of the designer price.

If only the originals will do, the Birkenstock Bostons in taupe have a suede upper and a comfy, ergonomic cork footbed topped with a layer of cushioning foam that the brand says is designed to mould to the shape of your foot over time. With prices starting at £140, they’re definitely an investment.
