Daesh suicide bombing cell dismantled in Iran

Iran’s police say they have carried out a major counterterrorism operation dismantling a Daesh-affiliated suicide bombing cell in Tehran.

Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi, the spokesman for the police, stated on Wednesday that an “extensive and complex” operation in Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, and Alborz provinces successfully dismantled the cell.

The spokesperson said that all members of the terrorist network, including 13 individuals, comprising the leader, command, and logistics teams, and suicide bombers, were arrested along with explosives, suicide vests, and backpacks.

The terrorist cell had planned acts of sabotage and bombings at an unspecified gathering.

Iran has conducted several counterterrorism operations against Daesh in recent years, targeting cells attempting to carry out attacks within the country.

In August 2023, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry captured 14 Daesh-Khorasan members in Tehran, Alborz, Fars, and Khuzestan provinces.

The ministry described them as part of a “US-Zionist-led group” and stated they had illegally entered Iran to carry out terrorist operations.
